Welcome to EPCC. Based at the University of Edinburgh, we are one of the leading supercomputing centres in Europe. We support the UK’s two national high-end computing systems: HPCx and HECToR, jointly worth some £170m. HECToR has recently been upgraded from dual-core processors to quad core processors, resulting in a theoretical peak performance of 208 TFlops. Together HPCx and HECToR have a capacity of over 220 Tflops.
To capitalise on the power of our facilities, this year we launch the EPCC Industry Hub, a one-stop HPC shop for industry and commerce that will give streamlined access to EPCC’s supercomputing facilities and expertise. Our intention is that the Hub will significantly increase the uptake of HPC by business in Scotland and abroad.
The Industry Hub builds on 20 years’ experience of working with hundreds of companies, ranging from SMEs to blue-chip multinationals. We also support world-class academic research, including all aspects of Grid computing, and house a unique collection of advanced computing systems.
Our expertise and computing facilities underpin our long-standing research visitor programmes. EPCC is also a major provider of HPC training in Europe and we offer courses for academic and commercial users throughout the UK and Europe, including our popular MSc in HPC.
