I started working here at EPCC in November 2001 having followed the well-trodden path from particle-physics (theory) to EPCC. I completed my PhD in “Lattice QCD” at Liverpool University. Before that I did a computing course (MSc) in Manchester having previously been at Nottingham studying Mathematics and Physics (BSc). I’m originally from Northampton and gradually working my way further north!
I work in the applications group here at EPCC and work mainly on the two European projects HPC-Europa and DEISA. Within HPC-Europa most of my time is taken up with the Transnational Access visitor programme and I co-ordinate most of the selection process across the 7 participating centres and manage the resources within EPCC. Also within HPC-Europa, I manage the EPCC part of the JRA3 Data Management and Portability activity. I still spend a large proportion of my time with QCD-based research as I manage the QCD Support activity within EPCC where I am presently working on a Lanczos-based algorithm, LANSO and I’m also working on a QCD Monte Carlo (VEGAS) code within DEISA.
I teach on a number of the MSc HPC courses.
I enjoy hill-walking and climb Munros from time-to-time. I also play the piano and organ and am organist of St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, Dalry. I am secretary and webmaster of ESO (Edinburgh Society of Organists).
