I joined EPCC in 1993 as Research Coordinator for the European visitor programme, TRACS, and when the Cray T3D arrived, I became Manager of the T3D In-Depth Support team. From 1995 to 1997, I had overall responsibility for all of EPCC’s academic activities, including support and training. In 1997, EPCC’s academic and industrial activities were merged into the Applications Group and I was appointed Group Manager. My group currently has over 30 staff and the major activities are in the following areas:
- Industrial technology transfer
- Training and research
- European programmes
- Academic support
I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc (1st class honours) in Mathematical Physics and, in 1991, completed my PhD in Computational Physics as one of the founding members of UKQCD, one of the UK’s initial Grand Challenge projects.
I originally got involved in parallel computing in 1988, programming the Edinburgh Concurrent Supercomputer. For my PhD and post-doctoral work, I used the Meiko i860 machines at EPCC. Since joining EPCC, I have made significant use of the CM-200, Cray T3D, Cray T3E and, most recently, the new Sun SMP cluster.
I am currently putting together a Personal Home Page.
