During August and September we ran a series of seminar events across Scotland, in collaboration with three major actors in the Scottish life science sector: BioCity, BioQuarter and BioDundee.

If you weren’t lucky enough to come to one of our seminars (and the complementary lunch) on the application of HPC and Big Data in life sciences then you might want to catch up by reading the associated case study.

The seminar programme was designed to promote the benefits of HPC and Big Data technologies in accelerating discovery cycles and driving innovation in the life-science and healthcare sectors.

A broad range of talks by EPCC, the University of Edinburgh and the Data Lab, together with speakers from key industry players such as GSK, Aridhia, Aviagen and IBM demonstrated the significant impact these new technologies can have on business competitiveness. The potential for company advantage within a thriving Scottish life sciences and healthcare sector, together with a strong enabling ecosystem across Scotland, could deliver significant impact for the Scottish economy.

So look out for further news and updates as we continue to grow our HPC and Big Data outreach activities.

Adam Carter, one of the presenters at the seminars, has blogged on HPC's role in Data Science. You can see all our posts about Big Data here.
