The National Safe Haven for research using unconsented NHS data

NHS Scotland allows research using routinely collected, unconsented patient data. Additionally, these data can be linked to social data such as education. The research this enables can have an enormous public benefit but the use of these data must be managed very carefully to safeguard privacy and maintain public trust and support.

​EPCC is responsible for building, supporting and hosting the infrastructure of the National Safe Haven, and we continue to develop the infrastructure and software to further enhance the service.

HPC-Europa EC-funded research visits: apply now!

The interdisciplinary HPC-Europa programme, which provides access to some of Europe’s top HPC facilities, is now running again.

The programme pays travel and living costs for short collaborative research visits to a scientific host in another country. Applications can be submitted at any time, with four closing dates per year.

Supercomputing MOOC: it’s massive!

Our Supercomputing MOOC is for anyone interested in leading-edge computing technology, supercomputers or the role that computer simulation takes in science and engineering. There is no requirement to write computer programmes. The next 5-week run will begin on January 15 2018.

Group photo of winning researchersEPCC, the University of Edinburgh, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) recently ran a Best Use of ARCHER competition to facilitate early-career researchers, who are all either PhD candidates or postdoctoral researchers, to build and develop their international network. ARCHER and EPSRC both recognise the importance of enabling young researchers to build their personal network to help build collaborations and skills.
