Online LAMMPS training for ARCHER

In October I ran an online training course teaching current and potential ARCHER users how to run LAMMPS. LAMMPS is a widely-used open-source molecular dynamics (MD) software developed at the National Sandia Laboratories, and is optimised to run well on HPC facilities. It consistently ranks in the top 10 most used programs on ARCHER. Although the course was run on ARCHER and with ARCHER users in mind, I tried to teach users how to use LAMMPS on any platform.

What is a MOOC, you ask? The answer is, it's a Massively Open Online Course, and EPCC's Supercomputing MOOC will start on 24th September.

Our MOOC was first launched in June 2017. Since then, it's had another two successful runs, and we're now making preparation for a fourth - not a bad year's work!

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide free web-based distance learning opportunities to large numbers of geographically dispersed students. Here at EPCC we are always keen to talk about supercomputing, and becoming involved in this MOOC was a natural development for us.

Our flexible, online courses are designed to fit around your other commitments. Students are given access to the computing facilities of the ARCHER system, the UK national supercomputer service.
