Terms of Use
These are the Terms of Use of the EPCC web site.
Access to, and use of, this web site (www.epcc.ed.ac.uk) and any other EPCC web site as is published, is provided by EPCC to make available information about EPCC to the general public and to facilitate access by prospective clients and students, staff and other visitors to electronic materials about or supplied by EPCC.
By using epcc.ed.ac.uk you agree to be legally bound by these Terms, which shall take effect immediately on your first use of epcc.ed.ac.uk. If you do not agree to be legally bound by all the following Terms please do not access or use epcc.ed.ac.uk.
EPCC may change these Terms at any time by posting changes online. Please review these Terms regularly to ensure you are aware of any changes made. Your continued use of epcc.ed.ac.uk after changes are posted means you agree to be legally bound by these terms as updated and/or amended.
As well as these Terms of Use, you must abide by other relevant policies or codes, including:
- any student codes issued by the university of which you are a registered student
- staff guidance, rules and disciplinary policies issued by the institution by which you are employed
- the Data Protection Policy of the institution of which you are a member
- the Acceptable Use Policy of the Joint Academic Network (JANET)
- the Combined Higher Education Software Team (CHEST)
- the Computing Regulations or similar codes imposed by remote sites, where their computing facilities are accessed or used by EPCC users
You must comply with the provisions of any current UK or Scottish law, including but not restricted to:
- intellectual property law, including laws about copyright, trademarks, and patents
- the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and associated instruments
- the data protection laws
You must also comply with the terms of any licence agreement between EPCC and a third party (e.g. a participating institution) regarding the use of hardware, software or access to data.
Registered users must take all reasonable care to maintain the security of computing facilities and files to which they have been given access. In particular, you must not transfer individual or group passwords without appropriate authority from the appropriate EPCC representative.
The confidentiality, integrity and security of all personally identifying data held on EPCC systems must be respected, even where you have been authorised to access it.
