Visitor programmes have traditionally been one of EPCC’s activities, beginning in 1993 with TRACS, an EC-funded collaborative research visit programme for European computational scientists. TRACS ran from 1993 until 2003, and was very successful, allowing over 450 visitors from 30 European countries to visit research groups in Scottish universities.

Since 2004, EPCC has co-ordinated an expanded programme offering collaborative visits to research groups associated with leading HPC centres in six European countries (seven from 2009) - HPC-Europa Transnational Access Programme.

HPC-Europa is a consortium of 11 European HPC centres, whose activities include not only the visitor programme, but also a number of complementary joint research and networking activities.

EPCC also ran a Summer Scholarship Programme (SSP) in 1994-2001, which was a unique training programme where senior undergraduates were employed to work on 10-week projects investigating various aspects of high performance and/or novel computing.
