Our team
After graduating from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, with a BEng degree in Computing and Electronics, I joined EPCC as an applications consultant in April 2002.
I joined EPCC in December 2013 as Project Officer of the Software Sustainability Institute, where I support Community and Training activities, as well as some of the Directorate’s tasks.
I joined EPCC in April, 1997. Currently, I am involved with the following projects.
My background is in atmospheric science first as a researcher, and then as a research software engineer (RSE) where I provided technical and scientific support to users of Earth System models. Through this, I became interested in management of research, and in 2020 I joined the SSI as a project manager. I am still an active member of the RSE community, and I am a trustee for the Society for Research Software Engineers.
I joined EPCC in March 2019 after graduating from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, with a
BSc Hons in Software Development, and then working for a year with an AI startup.
I joined EPCC after completing a PhD in theoretical and computational statistical mechanics at the University of Edinburgh.
I have recently joined the EPCC team as the new Postgraduate Programmes Administrator for the MSc programmes. Prior to this role, I studied at Newcastle University, graduating in June 2020 with a BA in History. Following the conclusion of my studies, I held several short-term roles before returning to Newcastle in 2021, where I worked as part of several education teams in taught and postgraduate research at the University until deciding to up sticks and move to Edinburgh. Outside of work you will likely find me watching sports, tv or films, sampling as many food & drink places as possible or travelling!
I joined the EPCC in June 2022 after spending two years as a DiRAC RSE in the Physics department at the University of Edinburgh supporting Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics research and the deployment of the Tursa HPC system. Before my move to Edinburgh, I completed a PhD in Lattice QCD at the University of Southampton.
I have been working on parallel computing for more than 25 years and joined EPCC in 1993. I became EPCC's Technical Director in 2001 and now manage a group with more than 50 technical staff, which is responsible for technology transfer, training, European projects and research support.
I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2012 with a Integrated B.Sc. and M.Phys. in Theoretical Physics, and followed this up with a Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry. Following a stint as a post-doctoral research assistant, I found my way into EPCC in 2019.
I graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1994 in Pure Chemistry. From 1994 to 1997, I carried out a PhD, also in the Chemistry Department at Strathclyde University.
Ritchie Somerville joined EPCC, the supercomputing centre at The University of Edinburgh, in 2023 as Deputy Director. He joined having previously been Head of Strategy for the Data Driven Innovation Programme, a joint venture between the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University, funded as part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal.
My interests are based around computational fluid dynamics and I have recently been closely involved with co-workers in the School of Physics in the development and implementation of novel lattice Boltzmann techniques for complex mixtures of fluids and particles.
I joined EPCC in May 2022 as a Project Officer for Software Sustainability Institute. I have an MBA with majors in Supply Chain and Marketing and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with majors in Marketing. I have previously worked for an educational institute in London managing grants for research, running short courses and other educational projects.
