We support businesses across a wide range of industries and sectors. 

We recently completed a successful collaboration with Oil and Gas integrity management specialists, PIM Ltd, to investigate the benefits and opportunities for using novel automation and data analytics technologies to improve the effectiveness and productivity of asset integrity management services. Over the last eight years PIM has delivered risk-based inspection services to the Oil and Gas sector and has built up a considerable amount of data which can be leveraged to optimise future inspection services.

EPCC is at the heart of the Data Driven Innovation programme of  the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal. This £661m programme will lead to the creation of major new data services for Scottish business, with EPCC providing the Edinburgh International Data Infrastructure (EIDF) that will underpin it.

Last week we hosted an event to explain the enormous potential of data-driven innovation for industry and to show how companies are already using data technologies to enhance commercial performance.

A new batch of students will soon be joining our MSc in High Performance Computing (HPC) and MSc in HPC with Data Science.

As ever we are on the look-out for interesting collaborative projects for the students to undertake towards the end of their course (roughly from April/May to August). 

Building a scaleable, extensible data infrastructure

Modern genome-sequencing technologies are easily capable of producing data volumes that can swamp a genetic researcher’s existing computing infrastructure. EPCC is working with the breeding company Aviagen to build a system that allows such researchers to scale up their data infrastructures to handle these increases in volume without compromising their analytical pipelines.
