EPCC at the Edinburgh International Science Festival

EPCC will be at the Edinburgh International Science Festival again along with others from the University of Edinburgh. Last year we hosted a very successful Junkyard Clusters workshop where participants constructed a PC from its constituent components. This year we will be part of the drop-in activities, showing what supercomputers can do. 

You will be able to meet our Raspberry Pi-based supercomputer, Wee Archie, and use it to design a wing to see whether a plane with your wing would be able to take off (or not) and how far it would be able to fly. Could you get as far as Moscow? You will be able to see how using parallelism you can solve problems more quickly, or solve even bigger problems. There will a number of boards (ie the innards) from past supercompters, as well as puzzles and activities demonstrating how to construct algorithms – the steps that computers follow to solve problems.

So, if you have young kids or even if you are young at heart yourself come and see us at the National Museum of Scotland in the Learning Centre Level 2 between 10:00 and 16:30 from 11-15th of April.
