Online student status

Access to student support services

Students are offered a full student experience with the associated access to all student services (such as study skills support, library resources, IT support, careers and counselling). Every matriculated student has access to all student services, regardless of the mode of study.

Interaction with academic team

Students have a high level of interaction with the whole academic team and with small groups of fellow students, each of whom has been selected through a rigorous application processes. Although the courses are delivered in an asynchronous way and students have flexibility in how they approach their learning, all students are encouraged to interact with each other and course staff through variety of different activities and tools, such as blogs, discussion boards, online tutorials, and feedback sessions. This isn't a MOOC, so you should expect to have plenty of opportunities to engage directly with academic staff.

Assessment and Award

Both courses are fully assessed by coursework with no exams. On successful completion of each course you will receive a Postgraduate Professional Development Award of Academic Credit, corresponding to 20 SCQF credits.   Although, at the moment EPCC does not offer a full programme of postgraduate studies, the credits gained from both courses can be used to obtain postgraduate qualifications when combined with other courses offered by University of Edinburgh, such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Data Science. The University of Edinburgh is working to build a whole online Masters course in Data Science, and any credits gained in this course will be transferable into this programme.
