ARCHER community: get involved!

ARCHER Champions

This programme promotes a coherent access structure to HPC resources across the UK, with coordination between tiers. It supports and promotes activities designed to provide career development to research software engineers seeking a career in HPC, and provides a support network for staff members whose role involves advising users on access to local, regional and national HPC resources. We run a series of workshops at various locations across the UK.

 

ARCHER Outreach Ambassadors

This activity provides ARCHER users with the resources to engage in outreach activities and act as Outreach Ambassadors for the ARCHER service.

We are developing an outreach pack that will contain a series of printable resources, ideas for outreach demonstrations and appropriate videos/presentation material. Ambassadors will be able to use their material in local schools and at local science events, offering outreach opportunities to young people across the UK.

Diversity in HPC

Gender, ethnicity, age, family or any other personal characteristic should not be a barrier to participating in this exciting field. Anyone with an interest in learning about HPC or using it in their research can start here to find out about the people who work in HPC, their careers, and the routes they have taken to get there.

We believe that we need to actively foster change within our workforce to ensure that those from under-represented groups have the fullest opportunity to engage and contribute to the HPC community. ARCHER has developed a new resource celebrating Diversity in HPC, showcasing inspiring Faces of HPC, and also sharing best practices to bring about positive change within organisations and our activities.

Faces of HPC

Faces of HPC highlights real people working in HPC today, and some inspiring role models. We want to provide role models for everyone, highlighting the important contribution that everyone makes to the future of our work, irrespective of their personal characteristics. Faces of HPC has highlighted the variety of people working in HPC, from social scientists to physicists, and the importance of interdisciplinary contributions to the community.

Bringing about change in the community

Women in High Performance Computing

Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) is part funded by the ARCHER Outreach project, including running the series of international workshops.

Our activities focus on bringing equality of opportunity for all to the community, promoting and building a diverse and inclusive HPC workforce by enabling and energising those in the community to increase the participation of women, and highlighting their contribution to the success of supercomputing.

WHPC needs you!

WHPC is for everyone - not just women. We are a community of like-minded people who wish to address the under-representation of women. Individual membership is free, and members receive our monthly newsletter.
