Montage promoting EIDF drop-in on 17 June 2026

Are you planning a research or R&D project that needs secure storage, scalable compute, or support for sensitive data? Or are you already using EIDF and want to stay up to date with the latest tools and services?

The Edinburgh International Data Facility (EIDF) is a world-class private research cloud infrastructure designed to facilitate data science research, R&D and innovation. It is designed, operated and hosted by EPCC.

This practical and informal session will introduce new EIDF Portal features and services designed to help you get started faster, monitor your resources more effectively, and work securely with confidential data.

It is also a chance to directly ask the EIDF team your questions during a dedicated interactive Q&A session

Why attend?

At this drop-in, you’ll get an overview of three key developments across EIDF:

  • A simpler project application process to help you request the right services more easily

  • New reporting and planning features to help you monitor usage, understand billing information and plan ahead

  • The EIDF Confidential Data Workspace for projects that need tighter control over data access and external resources.

Whether you are new to EIDF, preparing a future application, or already using our services, this session will give you practical guidance and an opportunity to speak directly with the team.

What we’ll cover

A simpler EIDF application process

We’ll walk through the updated EIDF Portal project application, including ready-made bundle options designed to help new projects get started more quickly and with greater confidence.

New reporting and planning dashboard

Dr Amy Krause will introduce new EIDF Portal reporting features that help project teams monitor resource usage, understand billing information, and plan future needs more effectively.

EIDF Confidential Data Workspace

Ruairidh MacLeod will introduce the recently launched EIDF Confidential Data Workspace, a secure environment that gives projects greater control over access to their data and allows project managers to manage approved external resources.

Bring your questions

A key part of the session will be an interactive Q&A, with time for breakout discussions. This is your chance to ask about your own project needs, including:

  • How to apply for EIDF services

  • Which resources may be right for your project

  • Onboarding and access

  • Technical requirements

  • Reporting, planning and billing

  • Secure or confidential data workflows

  • Our free data publishing service

  • How EIDF’s private infrastructure can support research and R&D projects
