EPCC colleagues' successes at RSECon25
16 September 2025
RSECon is the annual conference organised by the Society of Research Software Engineering. This year three EPCC colleagues were awarded prizes for research posters and contributions to environmental sustainability in research software.

Poster prizes
Sebastien Lemaire: "Create impactful scientific visualisations from your laptop*! (*also requires access to HPC)"
Sebastien's poster presents a tool called Blender remote render, which allows researchers to more easily use Blender - free and open source software - on HPC systems. This research was supported by an internal EPCC funding scheme.
Kirsty Pringle: "It’s time to decarbonise digital research".
Kirsty's poster is based on the work detailed in her Research Professional News article 'It’s time to decarbonise digital research'.

Green RSE Award: Andy Turner
The Green RSE Special Interest Group's Green RSE Award, sponsored by the Software Sustainability Institute, recognises individuals in the Research Software Engineering (RSE) community who are making exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability in research software.
Our colleague Andy Turner was awarded the inaugural prize for his stand-our performance in all four categories: Environmental Impact, Creativity, Openness and Community Influence. Andy has developed monitoring tools for infrastructures, designed open-source training material for the community and generally been a voice raising awareness about the issue.
