Introducing the new EIDF pricing estimator

9 July 2026

A new tool allows users to explore and estimate project costs before creating an account on the Edinburgh International Data Facility.

The new EIDF Estimator explains how users can choose ready-made service bundles or build custom estimates, save and link estimates to project applications, and benefit from a simpler application process with clearer funding requirements.

Explore costs before creating an account

Planning a new project? The new EIDF Estimator Tool lets you generate a price estimate before you create an account.

You can compare services, explore ready-made bundles, adjust expected usage, and view either estimated monthly costs or the total cost across your project length.

Start a price estimate

Choose a bundle or build your own estimate

Not sure what you need? Start with one of our ready-made bundles, designed for different users and use cases, including GPU workloads, virtual desktops, specialist compute, storage, and confidential data environments.

Already know your requirements? You can build a tailored estimate by selecting individual services or searching by service name.

Save estimates and use them in applications

You can use the Estimator without an EIDF account. To save an estimate, update it later, or add it to a project application, you’ll need to sign in. If you don’t already have an account, you can create one in just a few steps.

Once signed in, you can:

  • View previous estimates
  • Update estimates as your plans change
  • Attach estimates directly to project applications.

A simpler project application process

We have also improved the project application journey. When you create a new application, a short wizard will ask about your organisation type and project duration.

This helps us route your request correctly from the start, whether you are applying for data publishing, compute, storage, specialist platforms, or confidential data workspaces.

You will be asked whether you are:

  • From the University of Edinburgh
  • From another academic institution, a public body or not-for-profit organisation
  • From a non-public body or for-profit organisation
  • Interested in data publishing.

Link your estimate to your application

If your estimate is part of a project application, you can link it directly from the EIDF Estimator Tool. This means your pricing information is automatically included in your application, helping reduce duplication and making the process smoother.

Submit with the right funding information

When you are ready to submit, the information required will depend on your organisation type.

You may be asked to provide:

  • A purchase order (PO)
  • A University of Edinburgh WorkTribe identifier
  • A grant code

Once submitted, our team will review your application and contact you if any further information is needed. If everything is complete, we will proceed with setting up your project.

Start planning with clearer pricing

The new estimator gives you a simpler way to explore EIDF services, understand likely costs, and move from early planning to a full project application.
