28 August 2026
EPCC offers a range of PhD opportunities designed to prepare the next generation of researchers and industry leaders.
EPCC, the UK National Supercomputing Centre, is a leading centre in Europe for the development, application, and exploration of novel computing technologies. Our PhD candidates benefit from access to world-class facilities, including ARCHER2, the UK National Supercomputing Service, and the broader resources of the University of Edinburgh. This environment fosters innovative research and collaboration across disciplines, equipping students with the relevant skills and experience to pursue their chosen career.
We offer the opportunity to study for a PhD in areas related to high performance computing (HPC), computational science, data engineering, data science, and software sustainability. We also welcome proposals in one of EPCC's areas of research interest.
AWE collaborative project
Collaborative projects with industry are a key aspect of EPCC's approach, for example the fully-funded project 'Leveraging AI hardware for accelerating HPC applications', which is offered in collaboration with AWE. This is a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research with real-world applications, while working closely with experienced professionals at EPCC and AWE, so fostering a comprehensive learning experience that bridges theoretical knowledge and practical application.
