Dr Dave McKay

Architect in Data Science

I joined EPCC in November 2020, working on the Data SlipStream, involving processing of Earth observation satellite data to track forestation dynamics, and Materials and Molecular Modelling (MMM) Exascale Design and Development, looking at taking MMM computation to the exascale.

Prior to this I completed a PhD in computational main-group chemistry at Heriot-Watt University, post-docs at INSA Toulouse, studying uranium chemistry, and back at Heriot-Watt developing ruthenium catalysis. Finally, I completed a 5-year post-doc position at the University of St Andrews studying disorder and solid-state NMR spectroscopy of inorganic solids, where I became interested in data science.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, playing the guitar and making guitar picks.
