My career within EPCC has evolved over many years and has enabled me to work within many areas of HPC.
My first role at EPCC was back in 1998 as a Summer Scholarship Student where I worked on implementing OpenMP directives into a well-established geophysics parallel code. This started a desire to learn more and join the high performance computing community.
After completing my Computational Physics degree in 2000, I started work within the HPC Systems team as a Systems Administrator. I was fortunate to work on varied systems including our Cray T3E and a variety of Sun HPC servers including a SunFire E15K. This gave me experience and insight in the operation and tools to support HPC systems.
I left EPCC in 2006 for a career break which included a family relocation to the USA! We returned to the UK and my husband was then based at EPCC as part of the Cray Centre of Excellence for the HECToR Service. Once my children were all at school, I felt it was the right time for me to re-enter the workforce and again an excellent opportunity was available at EPCC in 2014.
I was able to build on my HPC experience and have led the User Support activities for the EPCC Services. I took on a Service Manager role for our Tier 2 Cirrus Service and work closely with the other Tier2 sites within the Technical Working Group including representing the group at the Tier2 Directors Meeting.
I also had the opportunity to coordinate the EPCC effort for the WP6 Pan-European HPC project (PRACE) and was a member of the Operations Work Package which involved regular knowledge sharing, technological developments and enhanced service support across the PRACE network.
I was promoted to Director of HPC Services in 2025 working alongside a great EPCC team.
