CHARTED project: funding available to support Research Technical Professional careers
2 July 2026
CHARTED works to make the ecosystem of digital Research Technical Professional (dRTP) skills and roles more transparent and easier to navigate. Join our webinar on July 23 to learn more!
CHARTED engages with employers across different sectors, the RTP communities and other initiatives (national and international) to help current and future RTPs develop and advance their skills and improve their career opportunities. It supports a range of initiatives through its funding schemes. This includes the newly-opened Fund 3. See list below for details.
Fund 1: FAIR Ecosystem (pending)
Funding will cover a mix of small and large projects.
This fund will support activities that make the training ecosystem more findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.
This call's opening date is awaiting confirmation.
Fund 2: Community Activities
Maximum award per activity: £5,000.
Supports a wide range of community-building activities — community events, hackathons, working meetings, networking opportunities, mentoring schemes, and training that addresses genuine gaps in the skills ecosystem.
The fund is administered on a rolling basis, with submissions reviewed roughly every two months.
Fund 3: Tools and Frameworks (newly-opened)
Awards: up to £15,000 for most projects, up to £150,000 for a large project.
This newly-opened fund supports the development and extension of tools, frameworks and approaches that improve the navigability of the dRTP training ecosystem.
First deadline will be September 30, 2026, with ongoing bi/monthly deadlines.
Fund 4: Professional Development
Maximum award per individual: £5,000.
Offers financial support to cover conference and event attendance, training course or certificate fees, and visits to other institutions for knowledge exchange.
Submission deadlines are on the 15th day of every month.
