Join EPCC at Computing Insight UK 2024!

The annual Computing Insight UK (CIUK) event is a must-attend for anyone involved in high performance computing, data science, or computational research. The theme for this year’s conference is Catalysing Research.
CIUK 2024, which will run from 5-6 December in Manchester, will feature an exhibition including the latest hardware and software releases, along with a two-day programme of presentations and parallel breakout sessions. Attendees can look forward to a poster competition and the fifth edition of the CIUK Student Cluster Challenge. Additionally, the annual Jacky Pallas Memorial Award will be presented.
EPCC will be there too, showcasing our work. Look out for these events on Friday, 6 December:
- “The Scalability of Quantum Air Traffic Control” with Oliver Brown (10:30-11:00).
- “RISC-V: The Most Exciting Hardware Innovation of Recent Times” with Nick Brown (15:00-15:30).
Nick will be describing RISC-V, which is an open Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) that has taken the world by storm since it was introduced around 10 years ago. It was recently estimated that over 20 billion devices are powered by RISC-V, but this technology is yet to become commonplace in HPC, although there are efforts underway. Nick will be describing why the CIUK community should be interested in RISC-V, how it might impact HPC, and share some of the latest activities that are making it a more realistic proposition than ever before.
ReFrame workshop
You can also participate in the “Portable benchmarking and profiling using ReFrame” workshop on Thursday, 5 December, from 09:30 to 13:00. James Richings, among others, will assist you in enhancing your benchmarking and profiling skills, and your knowledge, through practical, hands-on learning experiences.
