Scholarships available for EPCC MSc in HPC programmes

14 February 2025

We are offering scholarships to support students of our on-campus and online MSc programmes.

High Performance Computing (HPC) is the use of powerful processors, networks and parallel supercomputers to tackle problems that are very computationally or data-intensive. The same HPC techniques can be used to program the world's largest supercomputers, containing many thousands of CPUs or GPUs, or to exploit the full potential of a multi-core laptop. Our MSc programmes will appeal if you have a keen interest in programming and would like to learn about HPC and parallel programming.

EPCC's on-campus programmes, the MSc in HPC and MSc in HPC with Data Science, will be entering their 25th year in September 2025. Although the content of our programmes has changed dramatically over the years, the core aim remains the same: to provide you with a thorough grounding in HPC technologies and their practical application. In addition, the Data Science theme covers the key ideas and techniques used to extract knowledge from data and the HPC tools that underpin them.

We offer the following scholarships to support our students.

John Fisher Scholarships

We are offering up to two scholarships to students of our on-campus programmes. Worth up to £15,200 each, this scheme is named in honour of John Fisher who was head of EPCC user support until 2007.

These awards will be tenable for one academic year from September 2025 and will be automatically deducted from your tuition fee. Note that you must have already applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh and this can take some time to process, so please start your MSc application as soon as possible.

Application deadline: March 3rd, 2025.

EPCC Online Introduction to HPC Scholarship

The online Introduction to High Performance Computing scholarship aims to support professional development in the HPC space by making this introductory course more accessible. The recipients are expected to continue their studies up to the level of postgraduate certificate or higher.

EPCC is offering up to two scholarships covering the fees of the online 20-credit Practical Introduction to High Performance Computing course – the current course fees are £2,125. These awards will be tenable for one academic year and will be automatically deducted from your tuition fee. The scholarships will be awarded to new applicants who have applied to study at the University commencing in September 2025.

Application deadline: May 5th, 2025.

EPCC Online Dissertation Scholarship

The EPCC online Dissertation Scholarships aim to support the dissertation stage of the online MSc in HPC and HPC with Data Science programmes. We hope receiving the help to cover the course fees will reduce the financial burden and help the students to fully engage with their dissertation projects.

We are offering up to two full (four half or a combination of full and half) course fees to cover the dissertation course for the academic year 2025/2026. The full course fees are £6,370. These awards will be tenable for one academic year and will be automatically deducted from your tuition fees.

Only students ready to undertake their dissertation project are eligible to apply.

Application deadline: 30th June 2025.
