Research Paper
A study on the performance implications of AArch64 Atomics
Atomic operations are indivisible operations guaranteed to execute as a whole. One of the most important and widely used atomic operations is “compare-and-swap” (CAS), which allows threads to perform concurrent read-modify-write operations on the same memory location, free of data races. We explore the performance of CAS and LL-SC approaches to implement CAS operations on recent high-performance Arm-based CPUs, namely the A64FX, ThunderX2, and Graviton3, and observe that these instructions can lead to fundamentally different performance profiles.
Tuesday, May 23, 1:00 PM to 1:25 PM · 25 min. (Europe/Berlin). Hall F - 2nd Floor
Speaker: Ricardo Jesus, EPCC PhD student

Student Cluster Competition
The ISC Student Cluster Competition is an ISC exhibition and conference highlight! Over these intense competition days, the teams demonstrate incredible capabilities to obtain the greatest performance across a series of benchmarks and applications. In parallel to their day-to-day learnings, the students’ novel approaches and unique perspectives gained during the competition are integral to our own education – teaching us how HPC influences our world.
