5 October 2023

Applications for postgraduate study at EPCC are now open.

EPCC is a leading provider of high performance computing and data science education and training in Europe. We offer flexible routes to gaining the skills and experience that will take your career to the next level.

As the University of Edinburgh's supercomputing centre and long-time host and operator of national HPC services and with a history of industrial collaboration, EPCC offers a rare combination of opportunities. We continue to develop our offerings, providing our graduates with excellent career prospects across an impressive range of sectors.

Masters programmes at EPCC

Since 2001, EPCC's MSc in High Performance Computing (HPC) has trained students in the skills required to become experienced practicioners and leaders across HPC, computational and data science, and software engineering. Building on our decades of experience delivering national HPC training, our programmes are based on a practical and 'hands-on' approach to learning, and emphasise interactive and discussion-led learning with robust assessment.

We have two programmes available across both on-campus and online modes:

High Performance Computing

High Performance Computing with Data Science

Postgraduate Professional Development courses

These courses act both as a route to standalone training courses contributing University credits, or as a "taster" before moving on to an award-bearing programme (eg MSc, PGDip, PGCert). January entry is possible. Courses available in January 2024 include:

Doctoral and research study opportunities

EPCC offers PhD study opportunities across areas related to HPC, computational and data science, parallelism, software sustainability and engineering. We have a history of successful industry collaboration in this space.

We hold one funded (Home fee rate) place including stipend under an EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership for students commencing studies during 2023-24 and, expected, for 2024-25. We also welcome students who have other funding opportunities.

Specific project ideas are listed on our website, and potential supervisors are also happy to discuss student-led opportunities in relevant spaces.

Before applying we recommend contacting us at phd@epcc.ed.ac.uk to ask general questions and to introduce yourself, or to discuss opportunities with potential supervisors.

Applications should be made through the University Degree Finder.

We hope you will choose to study with us and look forward to meeting you!
