DUG23: DAOS User Group forum

DUG23 is a forum for DAOS (the high performance object store) users and developers to discuss the latest updates and plans. Adrian Jackson is presenting work undertaken with EPCC PhD student Nicolau Manubens on "Profiling and identifying bottlenecks in DAOS" as part of the DUG agenda on Monday morning. We'll also be looking out for performance information on DAOS on some of the largest systems in the world.

WHPC@SC23: 16th International Women in HPC Workshop

The Women in HPC workshop series is the leading SC event focused on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) topics. We aim to cultivate skills for valuing a diverse workforce and creating a welcoming environment for all. New this year, the event will have an increased emphasis on diversity and inclusion of both women and men from under-represented groups. The workshop will focus on improving diversity and inclusion for all in the HPC workforce and is a key step in addressing one aspect of the under-representation of various minorities: helping to retain diverse employees in the field and providing them with the tools to prosper and excel. For 2023, EPCC's Eleanor Broadway is acting as the workshop’s Submission co-Chair to curate a programme of lightning talks delivered by early-career researchers from under-represented groups.

Second International workshop on RISC-V for HPC

Monday 13 November 2023, 1:30pm–5pm

EPCC hosts the ExCALIBUR H&ES RISC-V testbed, enabling ExCALIBUR projects and UK HPC developers more widely to experiment with their codes on RISC-V. The RISC-V testbed will lead the organisation of the Second International Workshop on RISC-V for HPC, which will build on the very successful session held at ISC'23 at the start of the summer. RISC-V is an open source CPU instruction set and, with over 10 billion RISC-V based devices having been produced in the last few years, it is growing in popularity extremely quickly. We believe that RISC-V could be revolutionary for HPC and has the potential to power the next generation of exascale computers in an energy efficient manner. This workshop will focus on sharing current practice, opportunities, and challenges around the use of RISC-V for HPC workloads. With a mixture of an invited talk, research paper presentations and lightning talks, a diverse set of topics will be covered that should be of interest to not only those involved in RISC-V but also the wider HPC community.

Student volunteers

Numerous student volunteers help out with logistics throughout the event, ensuring the conference runs smoothly. EPCC PhD students Gabriel Rodríguez Canal and Mark Klaisoongnoen have been accepted as part of this team. Student volunteers meet a wide range of people from the HPC community, gain an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes at a large conference such as SC23, and enjoy a good view of the varied activities that take place.
