SAFE is a software framework designed to support accounting, reporting and usage monitoring, and resource management on advanced computing facilities.
SAFE comprises a number of modularised components which may function as separate applications, or be assembled to provide end-to-end applications for monitoring resource use on HPC systems (such as computing clusters or Grids).
All SAFE code has been developed at EPCC. The original version was developed in 2002 to support the HPCx national HPC service and has been under continuous development ever since. It is currently used to manage the ARCHER national HPC service and the DIRAC distributed HPC service.
Many of the core SAFE modules (including the accounting modules) have been made open source under the JISC funded GridSAFE project.
